An der Küste der Krisaikos-Bucht, ist Galaxidi durch die Berge windgeschützt. Galaxidi ist eine Hafenstadt voller maritimen Ruhms. Stolze Verfechterin der Revolution von 1821, blühte die Stadt mit der folgenden Entwicklung der maritimen Seefahrt auf. Im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert haben viele Segler ihre Reise über das Mittelmeer im Hafen von Galaxidi begonnen.
Heute ist die kleine, romantische Hafenstadt Galaxidi ein stolzer Tribut an die griechische Seefahrt, eine nostalgische Inkarnation der Vergangenheit mit den Kapitänsresidenzen, den neoklassizistischen Gebäuden an den engen Gassen und dem berühmten Hafen.
Galaxidi bietet dem Besucher die entspannte, maritime Atmosphäre einer kleinen Hafenstadt mit purem Inselfeeling in den kleinen schmalen Gassen des Ortes, den kleinen Badebuchten am Hafen, der gesäumt ist von den vielen kleinen Bars und Tavernen, welche besonders in der Sommermonaten Skipper und Touristen aus aller Herren Länder anzieht.Der Hafen Galaxidi 2018
Galaxidi ist eine Kleinstadt in der Gemeinde Delphi vis a vis der Peloponnes. Der kleine Hafen Galaxidi befindet sich in einer Bucht des Golf von Korinth südwestlich des Orakels von Delphi, südlich von Amfissa und südwestlich von Itea. Bis 2010 bildete Galaxidi eine selbständige Gemeinde in der Präfektur Fokida und wurde 2011 nach Delphi eingemeindet.
In der Antike hieß der Ort Chalaion oder Chaleion und war eine Stadt der westlichen Lokrer an der Grenze zur Phokis. Bedeutung und Wohlstand erreichte Galaxidi im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert.
Während jener Zeit war Galaxidi Sitz einer der mächtigsten Handelsflotten im Mittelmeerraum. Die Zeugen dieser Glanzzeit, die typischen Kapitänshäuser, sind bis heute erhalten geblieben.
Bekannt ist Galaxidi auch für die jährliche Mehlschlacht am Kathara Devtera, dem Montag des orthodoxen Karnevals, mit dem die Fastenzeit eingeläutet wird.
Beginnen wir mit einem kleinen Spaziergang am ersten Hafen entlang, flanieren durch die ruhigen Gassen der historischen Altstadt und genießen die typische Atmosphäre einer alten Hafenstadt mit dem nostalgischen Glanz der restaurierten Kapitänshäuser und Prachtbauten.
In Sankt Nikolaus bewundern wir die beiden Glockentürme, die weithin strahlende Kuppel sowie das filigrane Meisterwerk eines holzgeschnitzten Altars. Einen Besuch wert sind die historischen Schulgebäude, die aufgrund ihrer historischen Bedeutung unter Denkmalschutz stehen.
Der Besuch von Hirolakas, dem zweiten Hafen, sollte unbedingt auch einen Rundgang in der alten Olivenölpresse vorsehen, deren dem Meer zugewandter Balkon jedem Besucher ein authentisches Inselambiente vermittelt. Schließlich beendet den Spaziergang durch die piniengesäumte Pera Panta die Statue einer Frau aus Galaxidi, die mit ihrem Taschentuch einem imaginierten Segler auf dem Meer winkt.Das nautische Museum in Galaxidi
Die größte Auswahl an Seefahrtsgemälden aus dem 19. Jahrhundert in Griechenland sowie seltene historische nautische Gegenstände einschließlich verschiedener Zeitmesser, Instrumente, Reisetagebücher und historische umfangreiche Seekarten gehören zu den bekanntesten Objekten des Museums und zeigen den Besuchern und Seglern aus aller Herren Länder heute die ganze Spannbreite der jahrhundertealten, maritimen Geschichte der traditionsreichen Hafen- und Handelsstadt Galaxidi am Golf von Korinth.
Das Kloster von Metamorphosis tou Sotiros nahe Galaxidi
Es ist ein altes byzantinisches Kloster , welches dort oben auf einer Höhe von dreihundert Metern über dem Meer thront . Bereits im Jahr 1250 wurde es von Mönchen auf der weithin sichtbaren Anhöhe errichtet.
Hier hat der Mönch Efthymios über Jahre die Geschichte des Landes "Hroniko tou Galaxidiou", also die Chronik von Galaxidi , für die Nachwelt niedergeschrieben.
Einmal abgesehen von seiner unzweifelhaften historischen Bedeutung bietet das alte Kloster den vielen Besuchern heute auch eine großartige Sicht über die wunderschöne kleine Hafenstadt Galaxidi.

Sehr schöner Naturhafen mit malerischem Städtchen im Norden des Golfs von Korinth. Gut geschützt, Liegeplätze mit Bug oder Heck am Kai. Beliebt als Ausgangshafen für den Besuch von Delphi.
Galaxidi ist wesentlich schöner als Itea, ebenfalls als Ausgangspunkt für eine Besichtigung von Delphi geeignet. Bus geht um 10 Uhr. Wasser am Anleger. 2007 wurde die Promenade erweitert.
Navigation
Die Ansteuerung des Hafens von Galaxidi erfolgt von Süden kommend. Zwischen den beiden Inseln N.Giorgios und Apsiphia (mit dem Leuchtfeuer Fl.7s14m5M) ist das Wasser reichlich tief für eine sichere Passage. Am Kap am Festland ragt ein Klippenfeld fast 300 Meter weit nach Nordost. Wenn man das gemauerte Seezeichen mit dem Delfin östlich umfährt, kann man gefahrlos direkt auf den Hafen zuhalten.
"In der Tat hübscher als Itea. Ansteuerung problemlos. Festmachen mit Anker und Heckleinen rk. Elektrizität und Wasser vorhanden. Keine Gebühren. Toiletten- und Duschbenutzung in gegenüberliegender Pension ohne Probleme. Sehr nett alles. Diesel vom Tankwagen, der nachmittags immer mal vorbeischaut. Dieselpreise günstiger als an den Tankstellen der großen Marinas. Wir haben uns ein Taxi für die Fahrt nach Delphi gechartert. 60 € für 4 Personen hin und zurück inkl. 2 Std Wartezeit in Delphi. Sehr lohnenswerte Tour, aber besser 3 Std abmachen, wenn man das hochinteressante Museum auch besuchen möchte." (2017)

NAFPAKTOS AND GALAXIDI NEAR DELPHI

At first, here is their important history and the easy access from Athens. They are an absolute favourite for an autumn escape or an unforgetable weekend by the sea
Between Antirrio and the mouth of the river Mornos, Nafpaktos is the most beautiful town of the district ofAitoloakarnania. Its beaches face the Corinthian gulf and its important history is reflected on two monuments, the Venetian castle and the Venetian port.
The things you will enjoy in Nafpaktos are its plane-shaded roads, its traditional buildings, and its people enjoying the sun in open air restaurants and cafés, often by the sea. Beautiful rich Bougainvilleas climb on the stone walls and flowers fill the neighbourhoods with their warm colours and aromas.
AThe Venetian Port is the smallest and, maybe, one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean Sea!
At the eastern tower there is the old lighthouse and the Fethiye Tzami (mosque) of 1499. The built-in marble plaque reminds us of the famous sea battle of 1571. At the western part and next to the cannons targeting the sea, there are the statues of the legendary captain Giorgos Anemogiannis and of the famous Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. The walkway of Stenopazaro, right at the place where the old market used to be, invites for a brief stop.
You can discover the castle, one of the best preserved castles , whose story dates back in the Ancient times. The Venetians used to call its top "the triple tiara of Lepanto". You will remember the imposing view of the Venetian port of Nafpaktos, dominated by the new Rio-Antirrio bridge on the horizon.
The Galaxidi Harbour near Delphi
Through the mountainous landscapes of Fokida one reaches a town with a feel of tradition, and naval history: the picturesque port of Galaxidi. Seamen used to sail around the Mediterranean Sea to seek refuge in the two natural ports of the little town, Agora and Chirolakas.
Captains' mansions and narrow streets guarantee a relaxing stroll. Traditional architecture of the old times: colourful facades, yards with flowers and pebbles : the town hall, housed in the Tsalaggyras mansion, the Folk Art Museum, housed in Aggelis mansion are some of the best preserved old buildings.
As for ancient monuments, you will find them at the park of the town: the tomb of king Locros and the remnants of the walls of ancient Oianthi. Through the five traditional squares, you will get to the highest point in town to visit the church of Agios Nikolaos with its imposing dome.
The people of Galaxidi, located on the mainland's southern tip, relied on the sea for transportation from the 18th century. Galaxidi was home to some of the country's important shipping families, a legacy which can be observed at the Nautical and Historical Museum.

GALAXIDI - PERFECT FOR A PERFECT WEEKEND

Apart from its maritime history, Galaxidi is a destination that's perfect for a weekend break.
Old captains' mansions, picturesque ports and the charm of a non-commercialized town are some of the reasons why not only sailors visit the port of Galaxidi.

... thus Galaxidi was described until the year of 1963, when the Nafpaktos - Itea road project was finally completed. Until then the town could only be accessed by boat from Itea.
Galaxidi's island-like nature has been maintained even today. Beautiful bougainvillea plants provide color to the alleys, the promenade by the old port with its bars and tavernas is very popular for strolling.
The town's neoclassical houses with figureheads and pebble-covered courtyards have been preserved, as have the kapetanospita, meaning "captain's houses". Some have been transformed into guesthouses.
. Head on to Hirolakas, the second port, and after having taken a good look around, carry on for the small and detached coves for swimming. You will for sure find a small bay for your own.
Sit for mezes and ouzo at Palio Liotrivi, an old olive press with a terrace above the sea.
Galaxidi may also serve as a launching pad for visits to Delphi, a 20-minute drive away.

GETTING THERE

Driving to Galaxidi from Athens takes roughly 3 hours, at a comfortable pace,
either via Arahova or Distomo and Desfina.
Expect fuel and road toll fees to cost about €60 (return).

Harbour fees are collected by a town official who has a small kiosk towards the harbour entrance. English spoken.
Shelter in the harbour is excellent although NE winds do set-up an incoming swell making conditions a little uncomfortable.
Anchoring
Alternatively, in settled weather there is a good anchorage in the northern bay in 3m over sand, off the town. It can get noisy here in high season.
Services Ashore
There is a mini-market on the harbour front amongst all the restaurants and a post office and ATM in the village. Greek gas can also be found in the village. The bus to Itea, goes on to Delphi.
Note: The last bus leaves from Itea to Galaxidi at 21:00.

Nice cosy harbour. We were there for 3 nights and met about 9 Port Police people, also in their office. They are mostly friendly and sufficient in English. They invite you to come to their office and you pay. For our 12 meter it was some 7€ per night, including good drinking water and 16 Amps electricity, for nearly every mooring place, no laid moorings.
We bought fuel from Andreas: 120 liters for 1.40 € /litre, good quality.
There is at the harbour entrance a bar/snackbar with a swimming area, not a real beach but it starts with 20cm of depth, very popular because all the time we were there it was crowded.
Taxidriver tries to get (seduce) you to Delfi, 60€ for a 4 hour trip. Better take the public bus to Itea and from there to Delfi, for about 4.5€.

FRANCAIS : LE PORT GALAXIDI EN GRECE

Une ville calme , cachée au profond du golfe de Corinthe, sur la côte de la baie Krisaikos, Galaxidi est abritée du vent grâce à la présence rassurante des montagnes qui l'encerclent. Un endroit d'une réputation maritime considérable et un fier contributeur aux escarmouches de mer de la révolution de 1821, la ville Galaxidi a prospéré en tandem avec le développement de la navigation nautique. Les ports Galaxidi et les maisons seigneuriales
En ce promenant le long du premier port du Galaxidi, Agora, vous pourriez monter les ruelles de la ville traditionnelle et sentir l'aura de la prospérité, en admirant les maisons seigneuriales restaurées le long du chemin. Dans le Temple Sacré d'Agios Nikolaos, vous pourrez admirez les deux clochers, le dôme impressionnant, tandis que dans le temple de Agia Paraskevi, le cercle du zodiaque frappant sur le sol et le cadran solaire dans la cour sont sans doute les plus captivants.
Vous devriez également visiter les anciens bâtiments de l'école, désormais sous les ordres de conservation en raison de leur importance historique et architecturale.
Votre tournée à Hirolakas, le deuxième port du Galaxidi, comprendra certainement un arrêt à l'ancienne Liotrivi (la presse de l'huile d'olive et l'atelier) dont le balcon faisant face à la mer dégage une belle sensation d'ile. Enfin, une promenade à travers le PeraPanta jonchée de pins se termine à la statue évocatrice d'une femme Galaxidian agitant son mouchoir vers la mer.
Galaxidi: Le Musée Nautique
Artefacts archéologiques, des pièces datant du 4ème siècle à l'état grec moderne, la plus grande sélection de peintures de bateau à voile du 19ème siècle en Grèce, objets nautiques y compris des horloges, des minuteries, des instruments, des outils, des carnets de voyage et des cartes marines, ainsi qu'une collection de timbres-poste, "Argonaftes". Tout cela figure parmi les expositions du musée, reflétant l'histoire de Galaxidi datant de plusieurs siècles et ses traditions maritimes.

Les promenades matinales et les soirées tranquilles avec de la nourriture ou des boissons sont généralement l'ordre de la journée dans la ville romantique et nostalgique de Galaxidi. Selon les habitants, c'est cela qui fait sa magie; Galaxidi, comme ils disent, "parle à travers son silence".
